Carson, along with 3,000 other people (some of them not in the picture) who attended the 23rd annual ramp convention at Camp Hope, near Canton on _Contimted On Back Page_ Voters Hear Candidates At Republican Meeting A Republican Meeting to intro duce candidates for County offices to the voters, was held' Friday evening at the Tryon School. Ern est Gibbs, county chairman and Mrs. J. C. Woodley, precinct and county vice-chairman, acted as co chairmen. The highlight of the evening was the address made by state chairman James Baley of Marshall. A large audience of Republicans and Democrats were present. Mr. Baley analysed the role of the minority party in politics and the effects on the South, of a one party system “Without vigorous opposi tion,” he asserted, “any one party in power-call it what you wili must inevitable decay.” He stressed the urgent need to take education out of the hands of the politicans and restore it to the people; to revise archaic laws that held in subjection one-third of the people of the State. On the national level, he urged the voters to determine the choice of their candidate on “the two paramount qualities integrity and stability.’” He be sought his audience to actively participate in the precinct meet ings for it is there, that policies are determined which result in good or bad government. “The Republican Party is being revital ized,” he said, “and those who have felt frustrated can be heartened by the knowledge that many Demo crats, in the interest of a two party system, are switching to our side.” After reading biographical sketches of the candidates for County Commissioner, Mrs. Wood ley introduced them to the voters. _Continued on Back Page.— .
